Following the talk, an audience member came up to Zohra to tell her about a new, fine dining, fully halal, alcohol-free restaurant in Zone 1 called The Great Chase.
Turns out the restaurant had already contacted us and Zohra very kindly waited for me to return from my holiday before we headed to The Great Chase to see what they had to offer.
The meat, seafood and vegetables at the restaurant come from local, free-range and organic sources which makes the food at The Great Chase not just halal, but tayyab (wholesome) too.
Prepared carefully and creatively, these alcohol free drinks weren’t the sugary mocktails we had become accustomed to at halal restaurants but great tasting non-alcoholic cocktails with complex flavours.
The option of a 32 day dry aged Angus steak from Hill Farm on the menu was one we could not resist and we opted for the rib eye (they also offer a sirloin).

Then Halal Gems suggested brunch a few days later at The Great Chase Restaurant.
Oh, but then I had a look at the menu and saw that this restaurant serves burgers for brunch.
The Great Chase Restaurant is a relatively new, fully halal, alcohol free, modern British restaurant situated in Islington.
We were super full but Zohra and Ruman from Halal Gems were raving about how good the chocolate mousse is at The Great Chase so we decided to share one!
The beef burger wasn’t particularly amazing but I thoroughly enjoyed everything else and it’s definitely one of my new favourite brunch spots in London.

If you read my brunch post at The Great Chase, you’ll know that I fell in love with their buttermilk fried chicken burger so I was super excited to try this!
I did feel that it was a bit bland and could have packed in more flavour, however once paired with the melon it gave it a sweet and tangy flavour which made it 10 times better!
The fish was fresh, it had a nice slightly smoky flavour, it was perfectly cooked and tasted absolutely amazing when paired with the sweet pear!
I didn’t have much of this as I was too busy devouring my steak but the chicken was juicy and the combination of all the flavours in this dish worked really well.
The Great Chase is perfect for a celebratory meal or just a nice evening out.

The great chase for a high calibre halal British restaurant has been well and truly on, and after all my patience, The Great Chase is precisely what has been born.
Forged by a passionate team who prize quality above all else, The Great Chase strives to push the boundaries of the halal food scene beyond anything it has ever known before, with a unique take on British fine-dining.
The cured duck breast was equally delightful, with a thick and soft texture that carried a subtle savoury flavour.
Whilst the crumble was hot, sweet, and sharp, it also managed to completely drown out the subtler flavours of the cornflake ice cream.
For the team behind The Great Chase, the primary goal is to push halal diners out of their comfort zone, and introduce them to a new, contemporary form of halal dining.

In a nutshell: Classic dishes and mocktails with a modern twist Summing it all up: As much as possible is ethically sourced at this new restaurant on St John Street from a former Dean Street Townhouse chef, with an alcohol-free drinks menu that’ll delight non-drinkers.
Multicultural flavours, ethical produce and zero booze are the three main components behind The Great Chase, a new restaurant that’s quietly popped up in Angel with a former Dean Street Townhouse chef at the helm.
That’s right - instead the restaurant is a selection of “alcohol-free experiences and flavours that complement the fantastic food menu.”
Cornish Peppermint is billed as having a “brighter, cleaner flavour than fresh mint” or Chinese Emerald Green, which is “soft hay with notes of apricots.”
Outside of that, there’ll be dinner or brunch on the table, with chef Radek Nitkowski giving us his modern take on traditional restaurant grub, so the burger will come with beef brisket and smoked cheddar, or a chicken breast with croquettes and spicy aioli.
